About Ashley Pigford (Counsellor for Children and Adults)
Ashley Pigford is one of our compassionate counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering support to both children and adults.
She specialises in helping children navigate emotional challenges such as anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, depression, and emotional regulation.
Ashley provides a safe, empathic, and non-judgemental environment where children can explore their feelings and emotions, giving them the support they need to manage their mental health and well-being.
For adults, Ashley offers counselling for a range of issues, including trauma, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and stress, with a focus on creating a nurturing space that allows for honest self-reflection and personal growth.
Humanistic & Person-Centred Counselling
Ashley is a qualified and experienced Person-Centred Counsellor, holding a Foundation Degree in Counselling from Sunderland University.
As well as specialising in working with children, Ashley works extensively with adults affected by childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, and trauma counselling, providing them with the tools and emotional support necessary to work through their experiences and build resilience.
As a former teaching assistant and children’s counsellor, Ashley is passionate about nurturing mental well-being of children and supporting their emotional development. She also devises and facilitates nurture groups to help children facing social and emotional challenges.
Ashley has over five years of experience working with children in primary school settings, helping them overcome social and emotional difficulties such as school anxiety, bullying, and low self-worth.
She continues to expand her expertise with ongoing professional development in areas such as suicide prevention and trauma recovery, and is also trained in Eye Movement for Change, an approach that supports survivors of trauma in processing their experiences.
Calm & Empathic Counselling Approach
With a background in education and as a volunteer counsellor for Someone Cares – a counselling organisation that supports survivors of abuse – Ashley has developed a deep understanding of the emotional struggles that children and adults face, particularly those affected by trauma, abuse, and mental health difficulties.
Her personal experiences with grief and trauma have shaped her commitment to helping others make meaningful and fulfilling changes in their lives.
Ashley’s calm, empathetic nature, coupled with her professional skills, makes her a dedicated counsellor for children and adults alike, offering them the space to feel understood and supported.
Outside of counselling, Ashley enjoys walking her dog on the beach, dipping in the sea and meeting friends for coffee in one of the many coastal cafes that are to be found in Tyne and Wear.
