About Lisa Blaney (Family Therapist and Couples Counsellor)
Lisa is one of the Family Therapists and Couples Counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, specialising in providing family therapy and couples therapy, as well as individual counselling to help a range of issues that can have a damaging effect on family life and relationships.
Her particular areas of specialism are working with family conflict, parent-child difficulties, fostering, and kinship care needs, as well as helping individuals through illness, childhood trauma, depression, and addiction.
Lisa is also a skilled couples counsellor, helping those with relationship issues connected to arguments, marriage guidance, divorce and separation, and co-parenting disagreements.
Experienced Systemic Family Psychotherapist
Lisa obtained her Master of Science Degree in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy, and has spent the past 20 years working with families, couples, individuals, and young people in a variety of settings, including private practice, charitable organisations, local authorities, and the NHS.
Her aim as a family therapist is to help people to better understand each other’s needs, and develop healthy strategies to resolve problems. She feels passionately that all family members are given support to help them express emotions safely, communicate calmly and make the changes they want in their life and relationships.
The family therapy that Lisa offers is always sensitive to cultural beliefs and values, as well as respectful to the needs of everyone within the family.
Family, Individual and Couples Counselling
In addition to the specialist family therapy she offers, Lisa is also experienced in providing couples counselling and individual counselling.
She has completed a number of additional qualifications, centred on working with complex trauma and nightmares, working systemically with sexual relationships and issues of sexuality, as well as IAPT extended training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy principles and applications.
Lisa is registered with the UKCP and Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice, and adheres to their ethical frameworks.
As well as family, couples and individual therapy, Lisa also offers one to one supervision for trainees, experienced therapists, and staff working with family groups and young people.

Lisa offers face-to-face appointments at the main clinic in Gosforth (Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling at the Regent Centre).
