About Dr Glenn Scott (Clinical Psychologist)

Dr Glenn Scott is one of our Adult Psychologists and Cognitive Analytic Therapists at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering specialist, relationally focused therapy for adults struggling with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

Glenn works with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, psychosis, personality difficulties, self-harm and relationship issues. He also offers couples therapy and psychosexual therapy.

His main approach is Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), a relationally focused therapy that helps people understand, recognise and change unhelpful ways of relating to themselves and others.

Where it suits the individual, Glenn also draws on ideas from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), creating an integrated approach tailored to each person’s difficulties.

Clinical Psychologist for Adults

Glenn has worked in the NHS for over 25 years and has been a consultant clinical psychologist for more than a decade.

His career spans an inner city addiction service, primary care psychology and inpatient psychiatric rehabilitation units, giving him experience of supporting people with very different needs and levels of distress.

Most recently, he has been the trust wide lead for Cognitive Analytic Therapy in the largest mental health NHS trust in the North East of England.

Glenn also manages the trainee clinical psychologists undergoing training at Teesside University, which keeps his practice closely connected to current clinical thinking.

Therapeutic Approach

Glenn’s approach to therapy is relational at its core, as well as compassionate and trauma informed. He offers a safe and collaborative space where clients can explore their difficulties at a pace that feels manageable, with full respect for the individual and their needs.

His sessions focus on helping clients understand the roots of their difficulties in the context of their life experiences, and on finding the resilience and courage to change longstanding patterns. The aim is exploration, healing and recovery in a genuinely client-centred way.

Personal Journey to Psychology

Glenn was drawn to psychology by a desire to support people in distress and to help others build their capacity for self-reflection and growth. Over a career spanning more than 25 years in the NHS, that purpose has remained at the centre of his work.

He values the chance to offer a safe and compassionate space where people can explore their difficulties in a collaborative and sensitive way. For Glenn, therapy should allow exploration, healing and recovery, and it should always respect the individual and their needs.
