About Amourette Baker (Counsellor for Children and Adults)

Amourette Baker is one of our experienced counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, working with children, teenagers, and adults to support their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

She specialises in supporting clients, whether young people or adults, facing a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, anger management, domestic abuse, substance misuse, and difficulties relating to ADHD and/or autism.

Amourette is also an experienced child counsellor and is able to help children with anger problems, difficulties related to bullying, and problems relating to behavioural difficulties.

With a compassionate, understanding, and person-centred approach, Amourette works collaboratively with each client to build a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.

She is particularly skilled in working collaboratively during therapy, helping with lifestyle interventions, and providing mental health support and counselling that suit each specific client’s needs.

Counselling for Children & Adults

Amourette’s approach draws on a variety of therapeutic methods, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centred Therapy, which she applies in a sensitive and tailored way depending on each client’s age, needs, and goals.

Her background includes working in community mental health centres and supporting survivors of domestic abuse, which gives her a deeper understanding of the complexities clients may be navigating.

She is also experienced in working wth children aged 10+ to help them and their parents develop coping strategies to manage the difficulties that can occur during childhood and beyond.

Whether working with a child overcoming anxiety or an adult processing past trauma, Amourette ensures that clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to take positive steps forward.

She is passionate about early intervention and emotional resilience, and regularly attends supervision and peer review groups to reflect on her practice and continue developing her skills so she can provide the best counselling available.

Qualified & Experienced Counsellor

Amourette holds a Level 6 Degree in Counselling, with additional training in CBT, person-centred therapy, substance misuse, suicide intervention, and domestic abuse as well as her work with children.

In addition to her academic credentials, she has engaged in ethical practice training and workshops through the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), further reinforcing her commitment to professional standards.

Amourette’s qualifications and extensive training reflect a deep commitment to her professional development and to providing ethical, evidence-based care so that she is able to provide counselling to the highest level and help her clients overcome their difficulties.

Personal Journey to Counselling

Amourette became a counsellor to help people navigate the numerous difficulties that can come up during the course of an individual’s life. This personal journey deeply informs her work and allows her to bring a unique sense of empathy, compassion, and understanding to her clients.

She understands how life experiences can shape mental health and self-esteem, causing difficulties in various areas of life, and is passionate about giving others a safe space to heal, explore, and grow without fear of judgment.

Her warm and client-focused approach makes her especially effective when working with children and survivors of trauma, offering a non-judgmental environment where clients can feel safe, heard, and supported.
