About Ellie Giles (Child & Adult Counsellor)
Ellie Giles is one of our experienced Child and Adult Counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, working with children, young people and adults experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
She has particular experience supporting children and young people navigating trauma, childhood anger, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, neurodiversity and complex life experiences including abuse, neglect or loss.
Alongside this, Ellie supports adults experiencing anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, grief and bereavement, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma, and the impact of difficult life experiences including experiences of sexual abuse and baby or pregnancy loss.
Ellie draws from psychodynamic, attachment-informed, person-centred and trauma-informed approaches creating a compassionate, safe and non-judgemental space where clients can explore difficulties at their own pace.
She also incorporates creative and play-based therapy when working with children and young people where appropriate to support emotional expression in ways that feel safe and accessible.
Psychologist for Children & Young People
Ellie is a qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor with experience working therapeutically across residential, educational, charitable and specialist therapeutic settings.
She has worked within a number of specialist services, supporting children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse, trauma and bereavement, as well as adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and relationship challenges.
In addition to this, Ellie has specialist experience supporting adults through baby and pregnancy loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth and termination-related grief.
At the heart of her work is the belief that therapy works best when people feel genuinely safe, heard and understood. Her aim is to build warm, trusting therapeutic relationships that support curiosity, healing and meaningful change.
Therapeutic Approach
Ellie is particularly passionate about trauma-informed and attachment-focused practice, and regularly engages in continuing professional development to deepen her understanding and therapeutic practice.
She values creativity within therapy and believes emotional expression can happen in many different ways. She may uses creative and Play Therapy based approaches with children (and adults if appropriate) to help them express emotions and feelings in ways that feel comfortable and safe.
Whether working with adults or children, Ellie believes therapy should feel collaborative, compassionate and human, and aims to create a space where clients feel genuinely accepted and understood.
Personal Journey to Psychology
Ellie has always been interested in understanding people and the ways relationships and experiences shape how we feel about ourselves and the world around us.
Her passion for psychotherapy developed through working closely with children, young people and adults experiencing emotional distress, trauma and difficult life experiences.
She became increasingly drawn to creating spaces where people feel genuinely listened to, accepted and supported without judgement.
Ellie says that she feels privileged to work alongside people as they make sense of their experiences, understand themselves more deeply and move towards healing and meaningful change.
