About Nick Merrey (Counsellor)
Nick Merrey is one of our counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, working with adults and young people to provide counselling & therapy for a wide range of issues.
With his integrative approach to counselling, Nick incorporates a range of different therapy modalities to suit the needs of each individual, which includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Humanistic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Mindfulness techniques.
Nick helps adults and adolescents to deal with issues such as anxiety, depression, phobias, low confidence issues, and also to help those with autism.
Accredited Counsellor for Adults and Young People
As a counsellor for adults, teenagers and young people, Nick approaches his clients’ needs from an integrative perspective – providing a combination of therapy approaches that are best suited to the circumstances and goals of the individual.
After completing a Foundation degree and BA (Hons) degree in Counselling, Nick has also undertaken both NCFE Level 2 and Level 3 in Counselling Skills.
He has extensive experience working with teenagers in an educational setting, as well as with those that have been impacted by others with a range of problems (including alcohol use).
Integrative Approach to Therapy
Nick’s integrative approach to counselling includes a number of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Humanistic Therapy and Mindfulness techniques.
As an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling Psychotherapy (BACP), Nick is registered as both an Adult and Young People counsellor and is passionate about helping and supporting people to become the best version of themselves.
Having gained valuable direction and motivation personally from undertaking self-development courses, as a counsellor Nick gains fulfilment from helping others to achieve their goals, and enhancing their well-being.
Nick has also completed additional training on a number of specific areas, including in Self-harm and Suicide, Relational Trauma, and alcohol use.
Registered with Professional Bodies
Nick Merrey (Counsellor) is registered with the British Association for Counselling Psychotherapy (BACP).
Nick offers face-to-face appointments at the main clinic in Gosforth (Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling at the Regent Centre) and his own counselling clinic in Gateshead.
Online therapy using Skype, Facetime, Zoom & WhatsApp Video is also available.
