About Debbie Thomas (Counsellor for Children and Adults)
Debbie Thomas is one of our experienced counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, working with both adults and children, offering a supportive space to explore and resolve emotional wellbeing and psychological challenges.
She supports those dealing with anxiety, low mood, grief, trauma, life transitions, or simply a sense of being overwhelmed—helping people of all ages to better understand their emotions, build resilience, and develop healthier coping strategies.
With her approachable and empathetic manner, Debbie creates a safe space for both children and adults alike to feel heard, valued, and understood so that you can overcome your difficulties in a supportive and non-judgmental way.
Counsellor for Adults & Children
Debbie brings a unique blend of clinical and therapeutic experience to her role. Prior to qualifying as a counsellor, she worked for over 25 years in the NHS, specialising in Women’s Health and Oncology.
Her professional background includes roles as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Cancer Support Nurse at Maggie’s Centre, where she used her skills to support people going through some of the most emotionally complex times in their lives.
Debbie holds a Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling Therapy from Reflections Counselling and Training.
Since training as an integrative counsellor, Debbie has worked across a range of settings, such as helping children in schools based within a Special Provision Unit, and actively counselling those in her previous roles at Sunderland Counselling Service and in private practice.
Her ability to connect with clients of all ages, combined with her natural warmth and clinical insight, allows her to support a wide range of emotional and psychological needs with care and compassion which helps people supported and nurtured in their growth.
Compassionate & Client-Focused Counsellor
Debbie’s decision to move into counselling grew from her years working in healthcare, where she developed a deep interest in the emotional and psychological aspects of healing.
She felt compelled to support people beyond the clinical and medical, helping them work through the emotional realities of life’s toughest moments.
Her commitment to mental health and passion for helping others led her to retrain and expand her skills in counselling; a decision she describes as life-changing and deeply rewarding.
Debbie has a range of exprience helping children and adults alike overcome their difficulties so that her clients can go on to feel free of emotional burden and enjoy life again.
Life Outside the Therapy Room
When she’s not working with clients, Debbie enjoys spending time with her family and keeping active.
She loves walking her dog, sea swimming, grabbing a coffee outdoors, and connecting with nature, all of which are activities that help her stay grounded and energised.
Her genuine love for people and ability to build rapport with everyone she meets means clients often find it easy to open up and begin their therapeutic journey towards wellbeing.
