About Dr Dan Martin (Sport and Peak Performance Psychologist)

Dr Dan Martin is our dedicated Sport and Performance Psychologist here at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling. He specialises in maximising sports performance and mindset for athletes across a number of sports.

Using psychologically informed interventions grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dan helps clients to improve their sports performance as well as maximising their  wellbeing and wellbeing while doing so.

With his experience and expertise, Dan understands the mental game behind peak performance and is passionate about helping individuals, teams and performers to achieve their full potential.

Experienced Sports Psychologist

Alongside his Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Dan has worked as a Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychologist for the last four years.

In that time, he has worked with different athletes, coaches, support staff, and performance sport directors to support their psychological well-being and mindset to maximise their performance.

In addition to providing one-to-one sessions, Dan also works embedded with coaches and sports teams, having done so for a Paralympic National Governing Body – leading on the provision of sports psychology services for their National Performance initiative.

As well as athletes, Dan has used his skills to help other performers, including musicians, public speakers and others to make sure they are ready to perform at their best when the time comes.

Background in Sports Psychology

Dan has always had a strong interest in sports psychology and performance.

He takes great purpose in supporting clients who want to maximise the mental aspects of their performance to perform at their best so their mind is as sharp and as ready as their body.

Extending from his passion for helping others with their performance, Dan also enjoys taking part in competitive sports where he uses his own techniques to help him maximise his own performance.

Having had a number of years competing in contact sports, he now finds enjoyment and challenge in running and competing in 10k and Half Marathons.

Dan believes that his experience and skills in Sports Psychology have enabled him to perform at his best and enjoys ‘taking his own medicine’ whilst preparing for races.
