Dr Fiayo Okunribido is one of our Clinical Psychologists at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, providing specialist therapeutic support for adults and young people aged 16 and above.
Fiayo offers evidence-based support for a wide range of mental health difficulties, including anxiety disorders (such as OCD, health anxiety, panic attacks, GAD, emetophobia), depression, and non-complex trauma.
She also has specialist expertise in obesity and weight management, helping clients to navigate the psychological challenges that can accompany physical health difficulties.
Her experience also includes supporting neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism and ADHD, using adapted approaches to ensure therapy is accessible and effective.
Qualified & Experienced Clinical Psychologist
Fiayo holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Newcastle University (2024), a MSc in Affective Disorders from King’s College London (2017), and a BA in Psychology from the University of Sussex (2014).
Her training and qualifications ensure she works to the highest professional and ethical standards, grounded in evidence-based practice.
Her previous clinical experience during her doctorate included placements across adult, paediatric, liaison, and learning disability services, where she gained broad experience in assessment and therapy for a wide range of difficulties.
Fiayo’s training means that she is able to help clients to overcome their difficulties and feel better using the most effective and up to date therapies available.
Psychologist for Adults & Adolescents Aged 16+
Fiayo is trained in a range of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and motivational interviewing.
She adapts therapy to each person’s unique needs, focusing on practical tools and strategies while also addressing the wider psychological and social factors that can affect wellbeing.
Fiayo currently also provides specialist psychological support within a weight management service. In this role, she provides counselling and therapy, facilitates skills groups, and contributes to service development and staff training.
As well as being qualified as a Clinical Psychologist, Fiayo is also registered with the BABCP, showing her ability and training with evidence based approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Holistic Approach to Wellbeing
Fiayo’s decision to pursue a career in psychology was shaped by personal and professional experiences which gave her a deep appreciation for the impact of quick and early intervention and making care accessible.
These experiences motivated her to support those that face difficulties in seeking help, and to promote access to mental health support amongst various communities.
Outside of her clinical work, Fiayo enjoys strength training, cooking, and hosting dinner parties for family and friends. She also loves travelling and exploring new cultures; her most memorable adventure so far has been hiking up Mount Hekla, an active volcano in Iceland.
Fiayo is also qualified as a fitness instructor, which helped her build and highlight the importance of the physical body in mental health and how the mind and body interact to affect our wellbeing.
With a warm and collaborative style, Fiayo works alongside clients to help them better understand their difficulties and make meaningful changes in their lives, and the way they think, so that they can live better and overcome their difficultes in a safe and non-judgmental setting.
