About Dr Rosie Locke (Clinical Psychologist)
Dr Rosie Locke is one of our Clinical Psychologists at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering specialist assessment and evidence-based therapy for children, teenagers, and adults experiencing a range of emotional, psychological, and physical health-related difficulties.
Rosie works with individuals experiencing anxiety disorders (including GAD, panic disorder, OCD and health anxiety), depression, trauma (non-complex), phobias, addictions, and eating difficulties such as binge eating. She also has a strong clinical interest in supporting those adjusting to long-term or chronic health conditions, as well as clients living with persistent pain.
Her approach is grounded in developing a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship, using therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), applied in a trauma-informed, person-centred way.
Clinical Psychologist for Children, Young People & Adults
Rosie has worked across a wide range of NHS services as part of her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, gaining extensive experience supporting children, young people, adults, and families.
Her varied clinical background includes placements in CAMHS, community mental health services, and learning disability and autism teams, enabling her to work sensitively with individuals with diverse needs.
She has also worked within physical health settings, including stroke and cancer services, helping clients manage changes to identity, independence, lifestyle, and relationships when facing significant health challenges.
Rosie’s research experience spans life-limiting health conditions, addictions, and PTSD, giving her a deep understanding of how these issues impact both individuals and those around them. These insights inform her ability to deliver thoughtful, tailored, and evidence-based support.
Therapeutic Approach
Rosie’s approach to therapy is warm, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practice. She works collaboratively with clients to make sense of their experiences, identify what matters most to them, and build practical skills that support long-term emotional wellbeing.
Drawing on CBT, CFT, and ACT, Rosie tailors therapy to each individual’s goals and preferences. She works from the belief that therapy should be both supportive and empowering, helping clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves while learning tools to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and self-compassion.
Her trauma-informed stance ensures therapy is paced safely, respectfully, and with an appreciation for the emotional and relational needs of each person.
Personal Journey to Psychology
Rosie was drawn to clinical psychology by a lifelong curiosity about how people become who they are: how experiences shape us, why we respond differently to challenges, and how we can learn to move forward in healthier, more fulfilling ways.
Her initial interest was sparked by a passionate A-level psychology teacher, and it grew into a commitment to supporting people through meaningful therapeutic work.
She values the opportunity to help individuals understand their experiences, feel heard, and build the resources needed to live well.
Outside of work, Rosie enjoys exploring new places and hiking around Northumberland, the Lake District and beyond. She also loves photography and spending time with friends and family, whether hosting, hosting, catching up over the phone, or getting outside together.
