About James Graham (Counsellor for Children and Adults)
James Graham is one of our counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling. He works with clients of all ages, from children as young as five years old to adults, helping them navigate challenges such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, stress, grief & bereavement, and trauma (including low-level PTSD).
He provides a safe and supportive space for clients, using a variety of therapeutic approaches tailored to individual needs, including Person Centred Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Interactive Therapy.
Whether working with children, families, or adults, he helps clients to build confidence, develop coping strategies, and move towards a more fulfilling life.
Qualified & Experienced Counsellor
James holds a Foundation Degree in Counselling from the University of Sunderland and has accumulated over 350 counselling hours, supporting individuals across a broad range of difficulties.
His experience spans across various settings, including schools, NHS offices, and private practice, making therapy more accessible for clients by offering flexible locations and online sessions.
James works with young children, teenagers, families, and adults, ensuring that therapy is tailored to suit each individual’s developmental stage and personal challenges.
Counselling for Children, Adults & Families
James believes that therapy should be interactive and engaging, especially for younger clients, with his therapeutic approach incorporating several methods to suit the needs of each individual.
He specialises in Person-Centred Therapy, creating a supportive and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. For younger clients, James utilises Play Therapy, which allows children to express their emotions and process challenges through structured play techniques.
In addition to these approaches, he is also able to integrate Art Therapy (currently non-accredited) into his sessions, using creative expression to help clients communicate their thoughts and emotions in a non-verbal way. James also employs Interactive Therapy, which tailors the therapeutic process to the individual’s preferred way of engaging with therapy.
By adapting his methods to suit each person’s unique needs, he ensures that his clients receive personalised and effective support, whether they prefer talking therapy, creative expression, or interactive engagement.
Passion for Supporting Wellbeing
James chose a career in counselling due to his lifelong passion for supporting others. While he has always provided guidance to those around him, he pursued professional training to refine his skills and gain the expertise needed to help individuals make lasting, meaningful changes.
Beyond counselling, James is a qualified private pilot and hopes to one day earn his commercial pilot’s licence. His ambition is to combine his counselling work with a career on a flight deck, flying to sunnier destinations than the UK.
