About James Poole (Adult Counsellor)
James Poole is one of our adult counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering compassionate, inclusive support to individuals facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges.
James works with clients from diverse backgrounds who may be dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, abuse, low self-esteem, and identity-related difficulties. His integrative approach draws from person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural techniques (CBT), and culturally informed frameworks.
He offers a safe and welcoming counselling space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace and in a way that feels comfortable and empowering.
He is especially skilled in helping clients navigate identity issues, life transitions, workplace stress, and the lasting impact of grief or trauma.
Qualified & Experienced Counsellor
James holds a Foundation Degree in Counselling from the University of Sunderland and is currently completing a BA (Hons) in Counselling.
Working in his previous roles, he gained valuable skills in supporting people through change, handling emotionally sensitive conversations and developing solid relationships that help people feel supported in their growth; all of which he has carried forward in his work as a counsellor.
Since relocating to Newcastle in 2020, James has worked with adult clients through both Newcastle Carers and Cruse Bereavement. In these roles, he supported people dealing with a wide range of complex issues including anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief, depression, bullying, and imposter syndrome.
Counselling for Adults in Newcastle
James takes a person-centred and integrative approach to therapy, allowing each session to be shaped by the client’s individual needs.
His calm, steady presence creates a space where clients can safely explore difficult topics, gain insight into their challenges, and begin to build a more confident and secure sense of self.
James is particularly passionate about supporting individuals who may feel marginalised or misunderstood due to their background, identity, or life experiences. He draws on various therapeutic models to offer support that is practical, empathetic, and grounded in real-world experience.
Whether facing longstanding emotional difficulties or navigating new life pressures, James helps his clients to reconnect with their inner resilience and move forward with greater clarity and purpose.
Personal Background & Approach to Counselling
James’s decision to become a counsellor was shaped by both professional experience and personal reflection. Having spent years supporting others in the workplace, he recognised the value of being able to offer deeper, more meaningful help to those facing emotional and psychological challenges.
Through his own journey of introspection, healing, and growth, James developed a strong desire to help others feel seen, heard, and valued—particularly those navigating layers of grief, abuse, identity, and belonging.
Outside of his counselling work, James is a proud father and has been married for over 15 years. He enjoys staying active through sports and outdoor activities, finding balance and connection in the everyday moments of family life.
