About Pam Stenhouse (Child & Adult Counsellor)
Pam Stenhouse is one of our dedicated counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering compassionate, person-centred therapy to both children (ages 7-17) and adults.
She has a special interest in helping those dealing with grief and living loss, providing a safe and understanding space for clients to explore their emotions and find a path towards healing.
With over 12 years of experience in educational settings, Pam has worked extensively with children facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges (SEMH), including autism, ADHD, school refusal, and social anxiety.
Her calm and empathetic approach helps to break down barriers to learning, offering emotional support to children who may be at risk of exclusion or struggling with bullying.
Experienced Adult & Child Counsellor
Pam’s journey into counselling began after 16 years in education and adult social care, where she developed a passion for understanding the impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on mental health and behaviour.
This led her to focus on how autism manifests differently in children and adults, and found that her calm demeanour was her strength in this field.
With a Foundation Degree in Counselling, Pam’s professional experience includes three years as a Cruse Bereavement Volunteer, supporting both adults and children through loss, and two years as a Family Support Worker with Children’s Services, where she provided emotional and solution-focused support to families.
Pam’s diverse background allows her to connect deeply with clients, offering them a non-judgemental and supportive environment in which they can heal.
Person-Centred Approach to Counselling
Pam specialises in Person-Centred Therapy, ensuring that her clients feel truly heard and understood. Her approach is centred around empathy and acceptance, providing clients the space to explore their feelings and experiences without fear of judgement.
With her special interest in grief and living loss, Pam offers valuable support for those experiencing bereavement or dealing with life transitions, such as the loss of a relationship or a change in circumstances.
Passion for Helping Others
Pam’s career change into counselling was driven by her passion for helping others, particularly those facing complex emotional and mental health challenges.
Her ability to communicate effectively with children and adults, combined with her calm and empathetic nature, has allowed her to make a meaningful impact on the lives of her clients.
In her personal life, Pam enjoys cold-water swimming and has been an avid hiker and runner. She finds peace in early morning swims in the sea, followed by a warm cup of tea and good conversation with friends.
