About Charlotte Harrison (Counsellor for Children and Adults)
Charlotte Harrison is one of our experienced counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering therapy for adults and adolescents.
She works with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, providing a safe, understanding, and trauma-informed space for clients to explore their experiences and begin to heal.
Charlotte’s specialism is trauma-informed and psychotherapeutic counselling, supporting clients to understand how their past experiences influence their present thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
She also works with people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship and family difficulties, domestic violence, adjustment, grief, bullying, and low self-esteem, as well as with veterans and those affected by homelessness or societal change.
Her integrative approach allows her to tailor therapy to each individual’s needs, blending elements of Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy, alongside influences from Transactional Analysis (TA) and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) to help client’s feel better faster.
Trauma-Informed & Integrative Counsellor
Charlotte’s work is guided by a deep understanding of trauma and its lasting effects on emotional wellbeing.
She has extensive experience supporting adults and young people affected by sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, counselling for PTSD, and therapy for complex trauma, as well as those managing the ongoing impact of difficult childhood experiences.
Her experience spans a variety of settings, including charities, community interest companies (CICs), and private practice, where she has worked with both short-term and long-term clients.
Charlotte has immense experience supporting young people aged 15 and above, particularly those in alternative educational settings or who have struggled to engage in mainstream environments.
In addition to her therapeutic work, Charlotte has taught Integrative Counselling from Level 2 to Level 5, and has provided supervision and mentoring for trainee and newly qualified counsellors.
She is passionate about supporting developing practitioners and fostering ethical, reflective practice in the counselling profession.
Approach to Therapy
Charlotte’s approach combines compassion, curiosity, and clinical understanding. She believes that counselling offers a vital space where people can explore their experiences without judgment and reconnect with their own resilience and self-worth.
Her work integrates solution-focused methods with psychotherapeutic depth, helping clients to manage immediate challenges while also addressing the underlying causes of distress.
She is mindful of professional boundaries and always works collaboratively, referring clients to specialist services where appropriate to ensure they receive the best help possible.
Personal Journey Into Counselling
Charlotte’s decision to become a counsellor was shaped by her curiosity about people’s capacity to keep moving forward, even when progress feels slow, and believes that therapy can provide the support and encouragement needed to take those steps toward healing.
Outside of her professional life, Charlotte enjoys philosophy and exploring the “why” behind people’s beliefs and experiences.
She finds meaning in thoughtful discussion, engaging with differing perspectives, and the grey areas of human experience – values that also help her as an effective and open-minde, reflective therapist.
