About Lucia Harvey (Child Counsellor - Cramlington)
Lucia Harvey is one of our dedicated child counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering counselling for children (aged 4 and above), teenagers, and adolescents in Cramlington and the surrounding areas.
Lucia specialises in supporting children and young people experiencing grief, anger, and school-related issues, as well as those struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and identity concerns.
She also works with adults experiencing parenting challenges or difficulties linked to their own childhood experiences, as well as children affected by abuse, neurodiversity, and developmental delay; providing a safe and nurturing space to explore and process their experiences.
Her sessions are play and creativity based, using techniques such as sand tray work, guided imagery, puppets, arts and crafts, and other expressive methods alongside talking therapy to help children engage better.
Lucia believes that creativity can help children and young people express feelings they may not yet have words for, building emotional resilience and self-understanding.
Experienced Child Counsellor Cramlington
Lucia’s approach is integrative and humanistic, grounded in Transactional Analysis (TA) and drawing from Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Gestalt therapy, with sessions tailored to the individual needs, age, and stage of each client.
Her experience includes working with children and adolescents in both primary and secondary school settings, helping those experiencing family difficulties, bereavement, child anger, self-harm, low self-esteem, and the challenges associated with ADHD, Autism and disability.
Lucia has also worked with adults in the community through Mind, Victims First Northumbria, and Shout UK, providing counselling to those managing mental health difficulties, trauma, and crisis situations.
Before training as a therapist, Lucia worked as an Assistant Psychologist, contributing to clinical case discussions and supporting research projects which helped her understand and develop her skills in therapy.
Relational Approach to Counselling
Lucia’s passion for counselling began early in life, fuelled by a deep curiosity about people and a desire to help others feel understood. She is particularly passionate about supporting children and families, believing that early therapeutic support can help build stronger, more resilient generations.
She also recognises the challenges that parents face and offers therapy that supports both the child and the family system as a whole.
Her warm, open, and empathic style allows clients of all ages to feel safe, valued, and accepted, making it easier for them to explore their feelings and experiences without fear of judgment.
More About Lucia's Approach
Lucia is passionate about language and can offer therapy in multiple languages, enabling her to support clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds with sensitivity and understanding.
She values honesty, empathy, and curiosity, qualities that underpin both her professional and personal life. Outside of her counselling work, Lucia enjoys strength training, which helps her maintain focus and balance.
