About Nicola Nessworthy (Counsellor for Children and Adults)

Nicola Nessworthy is one of our counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, working with children and adults with a range of therapeutic needs to provide counselling & therapy.

Using an integrative approach to counselling, Nicola helps individuals experiencing difficulties with recent trauma, eating disorders (including anorexia, bulimia, restrictive eating and binge eating), low mood, low self-worth and self-esteem, and self-harm.

She has worked predominantly with children and adults with trauma, helping them to develop coping mechanisms to deal with emotional distress and negative thought patterns.

Counsellor for Adults & Children

With her specialism in helping those with eating disorders, Nicola has experience working with Eating Distress North East (EDNE), as well as Newcastle University, Anxious Minds, Sodexo, MCL Medics, and within the NHS at NECS (North of England Commissioning Support Unit).

Nicola has worked with a vast range of clients, and a large scope of impacting distress, and is passionate about finding the right way forward for each person – integrating various tools and resources into her work to support each person’s individual needs.

She has experience with counselling veterans, the elderly, those within the public service sector, children and teens, and holds each client as the individual that they are.

Qualified & Experienced Integrative Counsellor

Following an NCFE Level 3 and Level 2, Nicola qualified as an integrative counsellor in 2021 from the University of Cumbria with a foundation degree in counselling.

In addition to these qualifications, Nicola has also completed further training courses and CPD certificates in suicide, abuse, substance misuse, as well as continuing her professional development within the roles she has had in the NHS and charity sector.

This includes completing the relevant training and facilitating the Freedom Project group for domestic abuse survivors, facilitating a wellness course for women at Anxious Minds women’s centre, and running a grief and loss support group.

Each of her previous roles has led to the way in which Nicola values each individual, and connects to every client that she works with.

Professional & Empathetic Approach

As an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling Psychotherapy (BACP), Nicola is passionate about mental health, the power of being accepted and understood, and the ways that can change each person’s life.

She believes that in every aspect of life, the way we see the world and ourselves can make a profound difference.

With her open, empathetic, non-judgemental and warm approach to counselling, Nicola feels that given the right support and coping mechanisms, each person can find a way forward that is right for them.
