Bereavement Counselling in Newcastle
Bereavement is a specific type of loss, and involves the loss of someone close to us. The experience of losing someone important often comes with a range of emotions including grief, denial, anger, blaming (including ourself), and depression. .
Bereavement can be devastating, whether it is related to a family member, partner, friend, or pet. For some the grieving process can last many months or even years. It is important to remember that bereavement affects everyone differently, and that there is no right or wrong way to deal with the loss as it can be a painful process.
If left untreated however, the effects of bereavement can lead to other difficulties such as depression, insomnia, anxiety, anger and even problems with addiction or alcohol use. Bereavement and loss can also often cause difficulties in day to day life and impact on our work, health, hobbies and even damage our relationships.
Other Types of Loss
As well as losing someone through bereavement, it is also possible to experience grief related to other forms of loss.
These may include the end of a relationship, job loss, moving to a new location, or a decline in the physical or mental health of ourselves or someone we care about. Loss and grief can also occur following changes to our own health that means we are no longer able to do the things we used to, whether due to age, accident or a change in our own body or mind.
Similar to bereavement, these forms of loss can also lead to problems with depression, anxiety, insomnia, worry, anger and other difficulties that can impact on day to day life or come out in other ways.
