About Dr Rachel Tyler (Specialist Online Clinical Psychologist)

Dr Rachel Tyler is one of our Clinical Psychologists at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering her specialist services through online therapy, allowing her many clients much greater flexibility and accessibility than would be possible elsewhere.

Rachel’s clinical skillset is focused around supporting adults and children with a range of psychological difficulties including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, phobias and trauma.

With her particular expertise in working with people with long term health conditions (such as pain, illness and medically unexplained symptoms), she is able to support people through a journey of adjustment and acceptance when a health concern changes their daily life.

Additionally, Rachel also has expertise in child and adolescent mental health, having worked in CAMHS for a number of years. As such, she is able to offer child & adolescent counselling and family therapy, and is especially skilled in working with low mood, anxiety, trauma and low self-esteem.

Rachel is also experienced in working with individuals with neurodiversity and gender identity concerns.

Experienced Clinical Psychologist

Understanding the sense of loss & uncertainty that can come with a change in physical health, Rachel has experience supporting people living with health conditions such as Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain, Functional Neurological Disorder and non-epileptic seizures.

Since 2012, she has worked across a range of NHS settings, supporting individuals and families with various aspects of their physical and emotional well-being. Her most recent and most extensive NHS experience has been across child and adolescent counselling and paediatric settings.

In addition to her DClinPsy Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Bath University, Rachel also has a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, and has continued with further training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Thereapy, and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second Edition (ADOS-2) to help provide greater support for those with neurodiversity.

Integrative Therapeutic Approach

Within her private practice, Rachel works with adults, young people, and families. She uses an integrative approach, drawing upon a range of therapeutic models dependent on what is helpful and meaningful for each individual.

Rachel regularly draws on a range of therapeutic approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

Rachel has always been a great listener – listening to the experiences of others, and even as a young child, would often be found sitting with grandparents, aunts and uncles, listening to their stories and understanding their world.

Through building a relationship based on trust and understanding, Rachel is able to help people to find a way forward and make meaningful changes that can make a real difference to their lives.
