About Edward Conn (Psychotherapist)
Edward Conn is Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling’s Dual Diagnosis and Addictions Specialist and Psychotherapist.
Having over 15 years of experience in working with those suffering from complex addiction, Edward has since been a psychotherapist for over 10 years and previously worked for front line services in conjunction with the NHS.
Edward has experience in managing alcohol treatment facilities, setting up, running and managing treatment teams and delivering focused and effective intervention and psychotherapeutic programs for those that have experienced complex trauma and PTSD.
He is trained and skilled in psychotherapy and counselling, and particularly in working with mens problems as well as addictions.
Having initially trained in Management and Administration studies at Aston University, Edward then went on to complete a post-graduate diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling at the innovative Psychosynthesis and Education Trust (PET) in London.
Following completion of his training at PET, Edward focused on specialising in addictions (including alcohol, drug use, smoking and other compulsive behaviours) by training in Dual Diagnosis and Complex Substance Abuse at Teeside University.
Since continuing to develop experience in the field, Edward has completed further training in overcoming trauma, working with legal highs, safeguarding children and sexual health awareness.
Edward is registered as an Accredited Member with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
Edward developed an interest in Transpersonal and Psycho-spiritual theory, a lineage of thought directly linked to ideas by famous leading psychotherapists Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, which later led to him training at the established Psychosynthesis and Education Trust and developing his skills as an addictions specialist.
On the more progressive side of addiction treatment, Edward was featured on BBC1 television as part of the “One Life” Series where he successfully treated documentary filmmaker David Graham Scott for long-standing heroin addiction.
Edward has developed unique and highly effective methods of helping people with habit change and overcoming compulsive behaviours in addiction. His approach focuses on systemic change and helping people develop new behaviours that reset the choice patterns in the brain, enabling rapid resolution of entrenched behavioural habits.
Edward’s approach to helping people is rooted in his training, as well as thousands of hours of clinical experience, and many years of complex casework.
