About Margot Hardman (Counsellor for Children and Young People)
Margot Hardman is one of our child counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, who works with children and young people to provide counselling for children and young people for a varied range of issues.
Using a creative arts approach to counselling, Margot helps children deal with issues such as low mood & self-esteem, anxiety, bullying, loss and bereavement, trauma & adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), behavioural issues, and anger issues.
Accredited Child and Adolescent Counsellor
Margot began her counselling vocation by working in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service), initially as a Creative Arts Therapist and later as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.
During her 16 years with CAMHS, she has worked with children aged six up to young adults, and from diverse backgrounds, including adopted children and Looked After Children.
Following her work with CAMHS, Margot now offers face to face counselling with children and young people from her own private therapy setting in Newcastle.
Child Counselling with Creative Arts
Her creative arts approach to counselling includes a variety of techniques, with drawing, story, elements of enactment, and, in particular, sandplay all playing a part in her sessions.
With her background in creative and performing arts led Margot to see the therapeutic potential of creativity and play in psychotherapeutic work with children.
Creativity and play provide a different mode of communication, through symbol and metaphor; and are an alternative to talk therapy for children, where sometimes words can get in the way.
She has an enhanced DBS certificate for working with children and young people, and has completed further training including a PG Diploma in Systemic Practice with Families, as well as most recently Accredited Sandplay Training.
Professionally Trained Approach
Since completing her Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling with Children and Young People in 2007, and the years of experience that followed, as well as additional training gained, Margot has more recently pursued her interest in Sandplay, a recognised therapy in it’s own right, in which she is currently working towards becoming certified with AST Association for Sandplay Therapy.
She has extensive experience working with children struggling with a number of issues, including low mood, self-esteem, anxiety including around separation, loss and bereavement, historic trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), behavioural issues, anger issues, and bullying.
Registered with Professional Bodies
Margot Hardman (Counsellor) is registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), as a member of their College for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapies.
Margot offers face-to-face appointments at her specially equipped private practice rooms in Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Online therapy using Skype, Facetime, Zoom & WhatsApp Video is also available.
