About Scott Carter-Dowding (Counsellor)
Scott Carter-Dowding is one of our dedicated counsellors at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling.
He draws from psychodynamic, person-centred and behavioural counselling modalities to help people work through both recent and longstanding difficulties, as well as offering a comprehensive individual and adaptable approach to support his clients.
Scott is skilled in working with a range of difficulties such as bereavement, depression, anger, general anxiety, stress, and addictions.
Professional Experience
Specialising in helping people with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, and anger, Scott is primarily trained in person-centred therapy.
He adopts an eclectic approach, incorporating interventions from psychodynamic psychotherapy and behavioural modalities to provide a comprehensive therapeutic experience and help people work through their difficulties.
Throughout his time, Scott has worked with adults of all ages who have experienced a wide variety of psychological challenges, giving him knowledge, skills and a relatable personality that helps him connect with his clients and help them with work through their problems.
Counselling Skills
Scott’s career path was inspired by his own personal experiences.
He found himself seeking therapy and saw firsthand how powerful and helpful counselling with the right person can be. Consequently, Scott dedicated time and focus into becoming the best counsellor he can be, with the sole focus of helping those in the best way he can.
Through his therapeutic journey and training, Scott has gained a profound self-awareness and understanding from a variety of perspectives, such as humanistic, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, behavioural, and psychoeducational approaches.
Consequently, Scott’s approach to counselling draws on a range of skills that helps his clients feel comfortable while helping them work through their current situation.

Scott offers face-to-face appointments at our main clinic in Gosforth (Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling at the Regent Centre).
