About Kirsty Lawrenson (CBT Therapist)
Kirsty Lawrenson is one of our dedicated Specialist CBT Therapists at Newcastle Psychologist & Counselling, offering compassionate support for young people and adults aged 16+.
As a qualified Cognitive-Behavioural Therapist, Kirsty tailors each therapy session to meet the unique needs of her clients. She combines her specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with her further training and experience in providing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
Kirsty has extensive experience helping clients with various forms of anxiety—including social anxiety, phobias, health anxiety, BDD, and OCD—as well as trauma and PTSD, low self-esteem, grief, and depression.
Her goal-oriented and empathetic approach offers individuals the tools to manage their mental health and work toward meaningful change in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

Kirsty’s background includes significant roles in both education and victim support.
As a former police officer, Kirsty offered crucial emotional support to victims of crime, including domestic abuse survivors, helping to create safe spaces and guiding them through medical and legal processes.
As a former teacher, she also has extensive experience in supporting SEND students and their families, providing group and individual support, as well as therapy for teachers and school staff.
Kirsty brings a wealth of academic and practical knowledge to her work as a therapist, with a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Postgraduate Certificate in CBT and an MSc in Psychology, as well as a BA in Education and PGCE in Teaching which helps her deliver therapy more effectively and provide better service to her clients.

Kirsty’s work as a therapist is informed by a diverse professional history that combines expertise in education, providing therapy support, and counselling.
Her experience with The PELE Trust group of schools, where she helped parents and staff overcome their difficulties through CBT has strengthened her skills in addressing the needs of individuals facing both personal and professional challenges.
Whether helping young people with self-esteem or helping adults navigate complex emotions, such as anxiety, depression or trauma, Kirsty focuses on empowering clients so that they can overcome their difficulties.
